A lot of people associate technology with computers.
A youngster mocked me the other day about my "old technology" iPad. When I first got my iPad there was only one iPad model (Yes kiddies, there was a time when there was THE iPad).
When Captain Cook discovered Australia he's critics discounted his achievement as "cheating" because he used the latest technology.
Aussies have been "cheating" ever since. We're often the world's highest per capita "early adopters". We love our gadgets, gizmos and new inventions!
I saw an ad on tele the other day which was boasting of a vacuum cleaner's "superior dust compression technology". I'm pretty certain there isn't a smartphone app for compressing your dust. So what IS technology?
Technology simply means "a way of doing things".
So if you can come up with a new way of doing things, you are inventing a new technology. It doesn't have to have anything to do with computers or mobile phones - it maybe a better golf swing.
When Onliners was just a baby company, we invented a new way of providing exam results to high school students. The old way (via snail mail) took two months to deliver. Students didn't know what University course or career the qualified for. Many became anxious as the wait dragged on and on.
Onliners cut that time in half (and cut the cost by even more) by completely redesigning the process and making results available on the Internet, so people could receive an email or access the website - and get on with their lives a lot quicker.
Today Onliners is more focused on mobile apps, particularly for Apple's iPhone and iPad, but also for Android devices.
What new technology would you like to see?
